For Christmas 2009, Jaci and I have registered the domain, MOHUNLALL.COM, for you; we hope that you enjoy your brand new presence on the web! After our discussion on Thanksgiving with you about book publishing and other public ideas that you had, we knew that we should start that process by ensuring that Mohunlall.com belonged to you. We know that your upcoming success will give you an audience that will demand a public forum through which they can contact you. Therefore the domain, we thought, would be perfect for that audience.
You have probably seen Bengfort.com and that is your impression of what a personal domain is, but you may be reluctant to start a blog or a personal website. Let me assure you that domain ownership extends far beyond the constraints that a simple static web presence provides. The main point of a domain is to carve out a unique namespace for yourself in all aspects of the technological community. All of your electronic presence can be moved to your personal domain, including email, applications, mobile web, contacts, searches, local networks, chat, and really anything you can think of! The domain acts as a reference point for anything that has anything to do with "Mohunlall". To that end, I have provided already email, calendar, Google search, and Google documents to your domain. In addition, on the Bengfort Server I have also allocated a little space for a static web page, which is what you are reading right now!
I would encourage you to expand this domain to create your own little network. For instance, you may feel free to invite anyone who would like an @mohunlall.com email address to participate (think bunny@mohunlall.com). The beauty of domains is the network and connections they create. I am your technical adviser for this domain, and at any point, if you have any ideas that you would like to use the domain for, I would be happy to get it up or work with you to make it a reality. (And considering the hourly rate for my consulting services, this is probably one of the most valuable gifts I could get you!) I really hope that you can make this space your own.
There is one little caveat, and that is that any extensive web business would not fall under my purview becasue of the amount of investment that a buisness requires. My hope is that this space will be a good space for our family to participate in a network organized by you, and that all of your interests--cricket, Guyana, etc.--will be able to flourish here, as well as a personal space for expanding a web presence!
